Chief Officer (C/O) – Cement Carrier (Screw-Type), Worldwide, Bahamas Flag

**Description**
OSM Thome is looking for an experienced Chief Officer for a screw-type cement vessel trading worldwide under Bahamas flag. The C/O will be responsible for safe deck operations, cargo handling and discharge, ballast and stability management, and day-to-day leadership of the deck team on a fast-turnaround coastal cement trade.

**Key Responsibilities**
- Plan and supervise all cargo operations, with focus on mechanical cement discharge/conveying systems
- Oversee operation of screw conveyors, fluidisation slides and gate controls to avoid blockages and downtime
- Maintain system integrity and prevent moisture ingress into cement cargo and cargo systems
- Manage ballast operations, stress monitoring and stability calculations to match fast loading/discharging rates
- Organise and lead deck crew for safe and efficient port calls, often within 24–96 hours
- Plan work/rest hours and manage crew fatigue during consecutive port rotations
- Monitor mechanical and operational limits of the screw system and adjust operations accordingly
- Ensure compliance with company procedures, international regulations, and safe working practices

**Requirements**
- Minimum 2 years’ experience as Chief Officer or equivalent rank on screw-type cement carriers
- Proven hands-on experience operating mechanical cement discharge/conveying systems
- Familiarity with systems such as B MH, IBAU or equivalent
- Strong understanding of screw conveyors, fluidisation slides and gate controls and how to operate them to prevent blockages
- Demonstrated ability to maintain cement system integrity and keep moisture out of cargo and lines
- Coastal trade experience with short, fast port cycles (24–96 hours)
- High proficiency in ballast management, stress monitoring and ship stability calculations under high loading/discharging rates
- Experience managing crew workload and fatigue during frequent port rotations
- Valid and appropriate STCW certificates and licences for Chief Officer on Bahamas-flag vessels
