OSM Thome is seeking an experienced Assistant Barge Engineer (Marine Engineer) for an offshore construction project in Denmark. The role involves overseeing the engine room watch and supporting the operational continuity and safety of vessels through maintenance and project equipment management.

Position Overview:

  • Role: Assistant Barge Engineer
  • Location: Foreshore operations between Denmark and Germany. Based in Rødbyhavn (shore accommodation will be provided during off-shift hours).
  • Company: Femern Link Contractors (FLC)
  • Project: Design and construction of Northern Europe’s longest-immersed tunnel
  • Rotation: 28 days on/off
  • Taxation: Varies and will be discussed with shortlisted candidates

Main Responsibilities:

  • Assist the Barge Engineer in operating the vessel according to regulations and company standards to ensure safety at sea, security, and environmental protection.
  • Comply with the company’s Code of Conduct, policies, standards, and process documentation.
  • Contribute to the continuous improvement of the Vessel Management System (VMS) and Health, Safety, and Environmental (HSE) policies.
  • Administer stock of parts, stores, bunker, and lubrication oil, and manage spare parts in the VMS.
  • Ensure all activities meet state, class, and flag requirements, including reporting accidents and dangerous occurrences.
  • Perform necessary work in accordance with safety, health, and environmental regulations, reporting incidents to the Barge Engineer.
  • Maintain maintenance records and equipment certification documents.
  • Operate various auxiliary installations and systems as instructed by the Barge Engineer.
  • Plan and administer tasks in the VMS.
  • Operate machinery and perform maintenance and repair duties to ensure equipment is operational.
  • Provide support as requested by the Barge Engineer.
  • Contribute to the preparation of maintenance department budgets.
  • Clearly communicate work status at the end of shifts and hitch handovers.

Qualifications / Experience:

  • Marine Engineer license without limitations of horsepower or geographical area.
  • 2-3 years of marine experience in the maritime or offshore domain (cable and pipelayers), with experience in winches.
  • Strong conflict resolution, interpersonal, communication, teambuilding, and organizational skills.
  • Familiarity with computer-based maintenance programs for offshore units.
  • Completion of all mandatory training and certification requirements.
