OSM Thome is seeking an experienced Barge Master for an offshore construction project in Denmark. The Barge Master will oversee daily management, production, and crew operations, ensuring all activities comply with company and regulatory standards to maintain a safe and professional working environment.

Position Overview:

  • Role: Barge Master
  • Location: Foreshore operations between Denmark and Germany. Based in Rødbyhavn (shore accommodation will be provided during off-shift hours).
  • Company: Femern Link Contractors (FLC)
  • Project: Construction of Northern Europe’s longest-immersed tunnel
  • Rotation: 28 days on/off
  • Taxation: Varies and will be discussed with shortlisted candidates

Main Responsibilities:

  • Operate the vessel according to regulations and company standards to ensure safety at sea, security, and environmental protection.
  • Comply with the company’s Code of Conduct, policies, standards, and process documentation.
  • Contribute to the continuous improvement of the Vessel Management System (VMS) and Health, Safety, and Environmental (HSE) policies.
  • Report on external inspections (audits, Port State Control) to the DPA, Marine Operations Manager, Marine Plant Manager, and Transport & Immersion Manager.
  • Ensure all operations meet state, class, and flag requirements, including reporting accidents and dangerous occurrences.
  • Ensure the availability and proper functioning of all necessary equipment, including fixed navigation systems.
  • Perform necessary work in accordance with safety, health, and environmental regulations, reporting incidents to the Barge Master.
  • Participate in planning goals and objectives for the annual HSE plan with crews.
  • Supervise and coordinate all operations at sea and ports.
  • Ensure optimal communication and cooperation between the office and ship, and among different departments on board.
  • Plan, organize, supervise, and execute operations in accordance with well programs, ship move plans, VMS requirements, and contractual obligations.
  • Co-responsible for all aspects of ship maintenance, including executing the periodic maintenance schedule.
  • Participate in daily operational meetings, reviewing the last 24 hours, previewing the next 24/72 hours, and planning future operations regarding equipment, personnel, and coordination requirements.
  • Ensure clear and accurate communication of work status at the end of shifts and handovers.

Qualifications / Experience:

  • Master license with or without limitations of horsepower or geographical area.
  • 10 years of marine experience in the maritime or offshore sectors (AHTS vessels), with increasing responsibilities.
  • Strong conflict resolution, interpersonal, communication, teambuilding, and organizational skills.
  • Familiarity with computer-based maintenance programs for offshore units.
  • Completion of all mandatory training and certification requirements.
