OSM Thome is seeking an experienced Barge Engineer (Marine Chief Engineer) for an offshore construction project in Denmark. The role involves ensuring the safe and continuous operation of the vessel by managing maintenance and project equipment, leading the onboard technical team in compliance with company and regulatory standards, and collaborating closely with the Barge Master, crew, and Technical Superintendent.

Position Overview:

  • Role: Barge Engineer
  • Location: Foreshore operations between Denmark and Germany. Based in Rødbyhavn (shore accommodation will be provided during off-shift hours).
  • Company: Femern Link Contractors (FLC)
  • Project: Design and construction of Northern Europe’s longest-immersed tunnel
  • Rotation: 28 days on/off
  • Taxation: Varies and will be discussed with shortlisted candidates

Main Responsibilities:

  • Oversee vessel readiness: supervise engine room operations, stock levels (lubricants, spares) and certification records.
  • Lead and mentor the onboard technical team, ensuring safe work practices and clear shift handovers.
  • Assist Barge Master in navigation and emergency drills to uphold life at sea, security and environmental standards.
  • Enforce company policies and contribute to ongoing refinement of the Vessel Management & HSE systems.
  • Plan and track preventive and corrective maintenance in line with state, class and flag regulations.
  • Coordinate daily operational briefings: review past performance, forecast upcoming 24–72 hours, align resources.
  • Manage maintenance budget proposals and liaise with superintendents on project requirements.

Qualifications / Experience:

  • Valid Chief Engineer’s licence (any horsepower/geographical endorsement).
  • 7–10 years of offshore marine engineering experience, preferably in construction projects.
  • Hands on background with AHTS, cable/pipe layers, subsea equipment and winch systems.
  • Proficient in electrical and hydraulic system maintenance on floating units.
  • Skilled in computer based maintenance management tools.
  • Strong communication, conflict resolution and team leadership abilities.
  • Adept at coaching, upskilling and assessing technical crew.
  • Fully compliant with mandatory maritime safety, security and environmental training.
