OSM Thome Recruitment is looking for qualified and motivated Chief Officers to join Royal Caribbean's Deck Department.
The Chief Officer oversees shipboard safety, security, deck maintenance, and regulatory compliance. This includes enforcement of SOLAS, ISPS, MARPOL, Flag State, Port State, and Classification Society requirements.
A full understanding of the ship’s Safety and Quality Management System is essential.
Work schedules are arranged in coordination with the Staff Captain.
Duties and Responsibilities:- Enforce compliance with the Ship Security Plan and security procedures.
- Monitor access points, conduct security inspections, and supervise gangway security.
- Oversee crew and guest behavior in relation to safety and security requirements.
- Handle screening of suspicious luggage and ensure safety regulations are followed.
- Maintain knowledge of lifesaving, firefighting, and pollution-prevention equipment.
- Conduct security training for new crew members.
- Investigate incidents, accidents, and non-conformities as directed.
- Supervise shore-side security operations during port calls.
- Maintain accurate security logs, records, and required documentation.
- Escort pilots during embarkation and ensure safe movement to the bridge.
- Secure all side openings and watertight access points before departure.
- Monitor departure information boards and navigational updates.
- Stay informed on global security risks and appropriate countermeasures.
- Implement bomb-search procedures and train crew in detection techniques.
- Conduct drug and alcohol testing when required.
- Flag State and Port State requirements
- Pollution prevention and safety management systems
- Maintain accurate documentation for patrols, inspections, maintenance, and training.
- Enforce crew conduct standards, dress codes, and company policies.
- Issue, monitor, and control visitor passes.
- Oversee ship’s key control system and inventories.
- Supervise and support the security team; ensure training and readiness.
- Operate and monitor CCTV and other security systems.
- Lead and participate in security drills and exercises.
- Support infection prevention and control procedures when required.
- Maintain communication with the Master and Staff Captain on all significant matters.
- Perform any additional duties assigned by Senior Management.
- Participate in all drills and emergency procedures.
- Use PPE and safety equipment correctly.
- Lead by example in promoting a strong safety culture.

- MARPOL
- MLC 2006
- STCW
Qualifications: - Valid STCW 95 certification.
- Relevant maritime officer certifications as required for the position.
- Extensive experience in subordinate deck officer roles onboard passenger vessels.
- Experience with Coast Guard and Port State Control inspections.
- Physically and medically fit.
- Demonstrated integrity and strong leadership qualities.
Language Requirements
- Ability to read, write, and communicate clearly in English.
- Ability to deliver and receive clear instructions and communicate with diverse teams.
Physical Requirements:- Ability to stand, walk long distances, climb stairs, and perform repetitive tasks.
- Able to lift/push up to 50 lbs.
- Work in all vessel areas, including high-traffic or noisy environments.
- Willingness to work overtime, extended hours, and irregular schedules.
