The Physiotherapist is responsible for providing specialized physiotherapy services to injured crewmembers, supporting their safe and effective return to duty. This role also involves injury prevention, training, and education to promote workplace safety and musculoskeletal health.


Main Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Understand and adhere to the Safety and Quality Management System (SQM) policies and procedures relevant to the role.
  • Provide administrative support to the onboard medical team, including completing medical forms and reports.
  • Maintain strict confidentiality of all medical information.
  • Become fully familiar with shipboard policies and procedures related to health and safety.
  • Deliver Ergonomics Awareness Training (SQM 8.26) to crew in critical departments (Food Service, Food Preparation, Housekeeping, Entertainment), covering proper lifting, materials handling, and stretching techniques.
  • Provide individualized or small-group training to new or joining crew members in key departments.
  • Coordinate and oversee pre-shift stretching exercises in critical departments to reduce workplace injuries.
  • Observe operations in key departments to identify potentially hazardous work practices, providing real-time corrective feedback and training to reduce injury risk.
  • Monitor musculoskeletal injuries on board and focus training efforts on departments or tasks with higher injury rates.
  • Oversee and monitor the on-board Tele-PT program, following up with crew members who are non-compliant.
  • Participate in all lifeboat and emergency drills unless excused by the Staff Captain, performing assigned emergency duties as required.
  • Assist in maintaining proper inventory levels of medical and physiotherapy-related supplies.
  • Maintain up-to-date medical records in SeaCare for all crew members who receive physiotherapy assessment or treatment.
  • Organize and manage the daily schedule in coordination with the Senior Doctor, including patient appointments, training sessions, safety meetings, injury mitigation, prevention programs, and reporting to both shipboard and shoreside teams.
  • Serve on a scheduled daily roster to provide physiotherapy services and support.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned or logically related to the position by the supervisor.


Education & Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in Physiotherapy from an accredited university or physiotherapy school.
  • Valid Physiotherapist license from the country or state/province of origin.
  • Minimum of three (3) years of professional experience as a Physiotherapist.


Language Requirements:

  • Intermediate to advanced proficiency in spoken and written English.


Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to stand, walk long distances, bend, climb stairs, and lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Must have full vision abilities, including close, distance, color, peripheral, depth perception, and focus adjustment.
  • Physically able to participate in emergency procedures and lifesaving drills, including lowering lifeboats.
  • Must carry a handphone or communication device while on duty for emergency response.
  • Must be able to work in varying temperature conditions, both indoors and outdoors.
  • Must pass basic safety training and adhere to all onboard safety protocols.
