Position Summary:
Join Royal Caribbean's Engine Department as a Turner, where you will play a key role in performing precision machining, maintenance, and repair work that keeps the ship’s machinery running safely and efficiently. This position requires strong technical skill, reliability, and the ability to work independently while supporting the engineering team.
The Turner is responsible for completing work orders assigned by the Staff Chief Engineer and must be able to perform a variety of mechanical repairs and maintenance tasks. This includes machining components, repairing valves and pumps, and maintaining workshop equipment. All work must comply with the company’s Safety, Quality, and Environmental standards. Additional job-related tasks may be assigned as needed.
Key Responsibilities:
- Perform machining and repair work using workshop machinery (lathe, drill machines, measuring tools, etc.).
- Read and interpret technical drawings to construct or repair machinery parts.
- Open, inspect, repair, and reassemble machinery components (e.g., valves, pumps).
- Ensure all workshop equipment and tools are in proper working condition.
- Maintain the workshop in a clean, organized, and safe condition at all times.
- Report progress, issues, or concerns to the Staff Chief Engineer.
- Support engine workshop crew in following safety procedures and operational standards.
- Assist the Staff Chief Engineer with delegated duties and operational support.
- Report any malfunctioning environmental systems and follow environmental compliance standards.
Qualifications:- Completed STCW Basic Safety Training and General Firefighting.
- Valid and current STCW certification.
- Experience as a Lathe Operator and strong machining background.
- Knowledge of auxiliary systems, such as hydraulic, water, and sewage.
- Ability to read and construct machinery components from drawings.
- Experience disassembling and reassembling valves, pumps, and similar machinery components.
- Strong technical and troubleshooting skills.
- Ability to organize and prioritize multiple work orders.
- High commitment to safety, quality, and environmental standards.
- Strong teamwork abilities; collaborates effectively across the engineering department.
- Professional demeanor and positive attitude in all interactions with crew and officers.
Physical & Language Requirements:
- Good command of English, both spoken and written.
- Ability to understand and interpret technical manuals, instructions, and safety procedures.
- Ability to stand, walk, reach, use hands, and perform manual tasks throughout the shift.
- Capable of lifting and moving up to 50 lbs (23 kg).
- Must be able to participate fully in emergency drills and life-saving procedures, including lifeboat operations.
- Full use of arms, legs, vision, hearing, and communication abilities is required.
