Position Summary:

We are seeking an experienced Fitter A/C to join the technical team on board Royal Caribbean Group and support the installation, maintenance, repair, and troubleshooting of the ship’s air conditioning and refrigeration systems. This position plays a key role in ensuring passenger comfort, crew wellbeing, and safe vessel operations. The ideal candidate is skilled, safety-minded, and able to work collaboratively with engineers, electricians, and other shipboard teams.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist in the repair, maintenance, and overhaul (scheduled and unscheduled) of shipboard HVAC and refrigeration systems under the supervision of onboard engineers.
  • Support maintenance of:
    • Chiller units
    • Chilled-water distribution systems
    • Ventilation, heating, and AC systems in guest and crew areas
    • AC filter replacements and system servicing
      •  Maintain and repair refrigeration equipment including ice machines and all types of refrigerators.
      •  Support commissioning of systems after installation or major repairs, including verifying refrigerant charge, airflow, temperature differentials, and system performance.
      • Perform preventive maintenance such as coil cleaning, belt and filter replacement, leak detection, lubrication, and corrosion control.
      • Troubleshoot electrical, electronic, pneumatic, and hydraulic control circuits.
      • Assist in dry-dock projects and major overhauls when required.
      • Respond professionally and promptly to climate-related concerns from guests and crew.

Qualifications:
  • 2–4 years of HVAC/R experience (shipboard or land-based).
  • Certification or diploma as an Air Conditioning and/or Refrigeration Technician.
  • STCW Basic Safety Training (BST) and required maritime safety certificates.
  • Practical technical knowledge of:
    • AHUs, FCUs, VRF/VRV systems
    • Condensers, evaporators, DX units
    • Refrigerant piping, leak testing, charging procedures
    • System start-up and commissioning
      • Understanding of electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic controls related to HVAC/R systems.
      • Knowledge of refrigerants and climate control in marine environments.


Physical & Language Requirements:

  • Good command of spoken and written English.
  • Ability to understand manuals, work orders, and safety procedures.
  • Able to communicate effectively with supervisors, crew, and (when needed) guests.
  • Ability to perform manual work: standing, walking, handling tools, and lifting up to 50 lbs.
  • Good vision to read gauges and technical documents.
  • Able to work in hot, noisy, or confined spaces and at heights.
  • Must wear appropriate PPE and participate in safety drills and emergency procedures.
  • Comfortable working onboard a vessel in varying weather and sea conditions.
