Seeking A/C Engineer for Royal Caribbean Group. Travel worldwide and manage air conditioning systems onboard.
Position Summary:
The A/C Engineer is responsible for the operation, maintenance, and repair of all air conditioning, refrigeration, ventilation, and heating systems on board. This includes chillers, cooling and freezing equipment, HVAC controls, and ice-making machinery. The role ensures efficient climate control for all guest, crew, and technical spaces while maintaining energy efficiency and system reliability.
Key Responsibilities:
- Maintain all ventilation, cooling, refrigeration, freezing, heating, and air conditioning equipment in proper working condition.
- Ensure all HVAC and refrigeration systems operate at maximum efficiency to reduce energy and fuel consumption.
- Assist with maintenance and repair of refrigerators, walk-in coolers, freezers, drinking water chillers, mini-bars (refrigerant-based), and ice-making machines.
- Monitor performance of chillers, compressors, evaporators, condensers, coils, and air-handling units; perform necessary adjustments or repairs.
- Carry out preventive maintenance and diagnostic routines as scheduled or assigned.
- Complete any additional tasks or work orders assigned by supervisory personnel.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering (BSc) or equivalent technical qualification with specialization in HVAC/Refrigeration systems.
- F-Gas Category 1 certification (or equivalent refrigerant-handling certification).
- Advanced Fire Fighting (AFF) and Basic Safety Training (BST) meeting STCW requirements.
- Strong technical understanding of HVAC, refrigeration cycles, ventilation systems, and heat-exchange principles.
- Ability to speak English clearly, politely, and professionally.
- Ability to read and write English to understand technical procedures, manuals, and work instructions.
- Ability to give and receive instructions in written and verbal form.
- Able to present information and respond to questions from supervisors and colleagues.
Physical Requirements:
- Regularly required to stand, walk, handle tools, reach, talk, hear, and occasionally use sensory cues such as smell for diagnostics (e.g., refrigerant leaks).
- Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds as required.
- Vision requirements include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
- Must be physically capable of participating in emergency procedures and drills, including full use of arms, legs, vision, and hearing.
