About Hurtigruten:

Hurtigruten is a Norwegian shipping and travel company that sails the legendary coastal route between Kirkenes and Bergen, often referred to as “the world’s most beautiful sea voyage.” In addition to the traditional route, Hurtigruten also offers signature routes such as the North Cape Line, the Svalbard Line, and Hamburg–North Cape, with a fleet of ten ships in total.

Since its inception in 1893, Hurtigruten has safely transported local passengers, essential goods, vehicles, and tourists to 34 ports along the Norwegian coast.

Duties and responsibilities:

• You should have exceptional taste and exemplary customer service skills. You have a very good expertise in wine and other beverages, and putting together food and drink into a fantastic experience

• You'll work in teams to put together the ship's selection of wines, and consult with the Head Waiter and Executive Restaurant Manager, to decide which wines go with which dishes

• You are responsible for training the waiters so that they know the wine list well, understand which different combinations suit the different dishes, the wine's history, culture and how it is served

• In addition to assisting guests with wine selection, you are responsible for advising on the purchase of wine and other beverages and for preparing the wine list based on the food we offer

• You will be responsible for our beverage and wine inventory, its administration, and for setting sales targets for the various restaurants on the ship in consultation with the Executive Restaurant Manager and Head Waiter

• As a sommelier you will hold courses and organize wine, beer and aquavit tastings for guests on board

• You are passionate about your profession and try new things to stay informed about wine trends. You can represent Hurtigruten Norway in internal and external competitions

• Support restaurant operations by managing your own station, assisting other servers during service, and ensuring all restaurant routines and procedures are properly followed.



Qualifications/Experience:

• 2-3 years of professional experience

• Requirement with WSET diploma/Sommelier education

• International experience from high-quality restaurants and/or hotels with a high level of service will be emphasized

• Experience from fine dining restaurants and/or experience from a la carte dining will be emphasized

• Certificate of apprenticeship as a waiter and/or work experience as a waiter for 2-4 years

• Good communication skills, both written and oral

• Fluent in English. German language is an advantage.

• All employees must have Basic safety course for seafarers STCW AV/1-1, 1-2, 1-1, 1-4, Crowd and Crises management course STCW AV/2, and approved health certificate from authorized seafarer doctor. There is no requirement to have completed the courses before applying, but you must be willing to take them
