OSM Thome Recruitment is looking for experienced Security Staff's for unique career opportunities in the cruise industry, on behalf of Royal Caribbean Group.
The Security Guard is responsible for controlling access to the ship during Gangway Operations and carrying out all screening procedures in accordance with the Security Manual (SQM). Working hours follow the ship’s operational schedule.
This role includes conducting nighttime patrols, enforcing the Master’s Rules and Regulations, and responding to onboard incidents. While performing safety rounds or acting as a Response Guard, the Security Guard reports to the Watchkeeping Officer, with support available from the Chief Officer Safety, Security Officer/Deputy Security Officer, or Security Supervisor as needed.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- All responsibilities must be carried out in accordance with Royal Caribbean International’s “The Royal Way,” SQM standards, USPH guidelines, and all environmental and safety policies.
- Maintain a professional, courteous, and guest-focused attitude at all times in line with company service standards.
- Complete all required familiarization and training as outlined in Chapter 2 procedures.
- Demonstrate a thorough understanding of the Safety and Quality Management Program, Emergency Plan, Station Bill, the Master’s Rules and Regulations, company policies, and the Security Manual.
- Adjust working hours based on ship routines, monitor day and night security activities, and maintain detailed logs for review by the Security Officer.
- Conduct safety rounds and gangway security following established protocols.
- Assist in maintaining the safety of passengers, crew, and the vessel through ongoing observation and vigilance.
- Respond immediately to incidents, alarms, or emergencies, assess situations quickly, and take appropriate action until additional support arrives.
- Notify the Duty Officer and relevant officers of any incidents or irregularities without delay.
- Maintain full knowledge of safety equipment locations and proper usage.
- Follow all procedures for “Alpha Alpha Alpha” or other emergency alerts.
- Serve as an additional lookout for any operational, safety, or security issues involving guests, crew, or ship property.
- Report all unusual activity, rule violations, or property misuse.
- Be familiar with passenger complaint resolution procedures.
- Conduct routine inspections of crew areas during assigned hours.
- Attend all required meetings, training sessions, and job-related activities.
- Perform additional duties as assigned by supervisors or ship management.
Qualifications:
- Minimum four (4) years of experience in one of the following fields: Army, Maritime, Aviation, Police, or Hotel Security.
- Strong background in physical security, including access control, screening processes, and operation of security screening equipment (x-ray, metal detection, explosives/narcotics detection).
- Ability to work effectively in a multinational environment.
- Strong organizational skills; basic computer literacy preferred.
- Completion of STCW ’95 Basic Safety Training.
- Familiarity with the operation of shipboard emergency and security equipment.
Language Requirements
- Clear and cordial spoken English.
- Ability to read and write English to interpret procedures, receive/give instructions, and communicate with guests, supervisors, and coworkers.
- Additional languages (Spanish, French, Italian, Portuguese, German, etc.) are an asset.
- Prior knowledge of the ISPS Code is preferred.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to stand, walk, use hands, reach, speak, hear, and smell as required by duties.
- Ability to lift and/or move up to 50 lbs regularly.
- Must meet all physical requirements necessary to participate in emergency response procedures, including lifeboat operations.
- Adequate vision (close, distance, color, peripheral, depth perception) and ability to adjust focus.
