RESPONSIBILITIES
• Responsible for safe, compliant and efficient operation of assigned container vessels in accordance with ISM, MLC, ISPS, ISO and TQM.
• Ensures performance in navigation, container cargo operations, lashing/securing and mooring.
• Provides operational guidance, supports audits, investigations and risk assessments, and emergency response coordination.
DUTIES
• Oversee day-to-day marine operations ensuring compliance with international regulations and company standards.
• Support the operational performance of Navigation, Cargo Handling, and Mooring, assist as a member of the Subject Matter Expert Groups (SmE)
• Provide nautical and regulatory guidance to Masters and vessel teams, particularly on navigation, mooring, cargo handling, and operational safety
• Monitor KPIs and contribute to management review and continuous improvement.
• Provide guidance on navigation, cargo securing, lashing plans and port operations.
• Ensure compliance with Cargo Securing Manual (CSM), including lashing gear inventory and IMDG Code requirements.
• Monitor risks related to container loss, lashing failures and mis declared cargo.
• Stevedore damage reports follow up.
• Upkeep of the loading computer and Dago software.
• Support during audits including PSC, Flag State, and Charterers inspections.
• Conduct marine visits, internal audits, incident investigations, focusing on navigation and cargo/ safety -related events.
• Support MOC and risk assessment processes.
• Participate in emergency response team activities.
• Oversight of stability checks.
• Monitoring of reefer container operations
• Support interdepartmental cooperation by supporting other teams (e.g., BD, Crewing, MQA) to support vessel operations, training strategies, and project development.
• Assist assigned vessels during emergencies and actively participate in the company’s shore-based Emergency Response Team, performing designated roles and responsibilities as directed.
AUTHORITY
• The person is authorized to make required decisions relevant to his/her responsibility following national and international legislation, company policies, procedures, guidelines and routines. Any decision with a deviation to above should be done only after consultation with superior or his/her alternate.
• Not authorized to sign financial commitments or enter into contracts on behalf of OSM Thome or vessel owners.
• Exercise authority in accordance with the Company Authority Matrix.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCES
• Valid Class 1 Certificate of Competency (Master Mariner) and significant seagoing experience, preferably as Chief Officer or Master.
Senior Marine Superintendent: Ideally a proven track record for a minimum of 2 year in a shore-based shipping company as marine superintendent will have an advantage
Proven track record for a minimum of 1 year in a shore-based shipping company.
• Strong knowledge of ISM Code, MLC, ISPS, SOLAS, MARPOL requirements.
• Experience with container cargo operations, IMDG and lashing systems.
• Strong leadership and communication skills.
• In-depth understanding of customer vetting and clearance regimes
• Experience in audits, inspections (e.g., SIRE, CDI), and handling emergency response procedures.
• Good leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills; able to coordinate with multiple departments.
• Familiar with vessel operations, safety systems, and able to support training and risk assessment processes.
