Position Summary:
As an Assistant Waiter, you will support the seamless delivery of exceptional dining experiences across a variety of onboard venues including the Main Dining Room, Windjammer, Specialty Restaurants, and Buffet areas. This position plays a key role in anticipating guest needs, supporting waiters, and ensuring service is friendly, professional, and aligned with company standards. The role also includes key operational tasks in support of food service, guest satisfaction, and compliance with safety and hygiene regulations.
Key Responsibilities:
- Participate in rotational dining service in casual, formal, and specialty venues.
- Support Waiters in delivering efficient and high-quality service during all meals.
- Greet and escort guests to assigned tables; present menus and suggest courses and wines.
- Enter food and beverage orders accurately into the POS system.
- Serve non-chargeable beverages, bread, and assist with basic table maintenance.
- Clear soiled dishes and transport them to the galley following hygiene standards.
- Maintain cleanliness and readiness of assigned workstations (tables, chairs, side stands).
- Learn and communicate food and wine terminology, pronunciations, and menu items.
- Monitor guest satisfaction, respond to requests or complaints, and communicate with supervisors.
- Participate in entertainment or theme night activities as required.
- Attend meetings, training sessions, and contribute to ongoing team development.
- Follow all USPH, HACCP, and environmental safety regulations.
- Report equipment malfunctions or guest incidents promptly to supervisors.
Requirements:
- 2–3 years of previous waiter/assistant waiter experience in a 4- or 5-star restaurant, cruise ship, hotel, or upscale resort.
- Completion of high school or equivalent education.
- Familiarity with food and beverage service standards and terminology.
- Basic math skills for order taking, tips, and meal counts.
- Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced, high-volume environment.
- Prior shipboard or banqueting service experience preferred.
- Must pass ServSafe responsible alcohol service training within first 30 days of contract.
Language Requirements:- Ability to speak English clearly, distinctly, and cordially with guests.
- Ability to read and write English to understand and interpret procedures and communicate effectively.
- Additional languages such as Spanish, French, German, Italian, or Portuguese are preferred.
Physical Requirements:- Must be able to stand and walk for extended periods, use hands to handle items, and reach with arms.
- Ability to lift/move up to 50 pounds regularly.
- Full use of arms, legs, vision, and hearing to participate in emergency drills and perform life-saving procedures.
- Must be able to taste and smell food items for quality control.
