Requirements/Qualifications/Competence:- Minimum 5 years of offshore work experience in heavy-lift or construction vessels (not drilling rigs).
- At least 5 years of experience operating main cranes with lifting capacities between 250 to 2000 tonnes, with consistent work on vessels using cranes of 400 tonnes or more.
- Familiarity with major crane systems such as NOV, HUISMAN, AMCLYDE, and LIEBHERR preferred.
- Valid Stage 3 Offshore Crane Operator certification.
- Possession of an IMCA or equivalent crane operator logbook.
- Fluent in spoken and written English.
Tasks:
- Operate crane equipment following rated load limits and weather-related derating guidelines.
- Conduct personnel or equipment basket transfers only when conditions are verified as safe.
- Manage lifts independently according to certification level (Stage 2 for inboard lifts, Stage 3 for offshore lifts).
- Monitor the crane's surroundings to avoid collisions or interference with onboard equipment.
- Ensure crane operations remain within mechanical limits, considering load, reach, and motion.
- Coordinate multi-crane activities by communicating and adjusting operations to avoid interference.
- Collaborate with deck supervisors to define lift strategies and execution plans.
- Immediately report any mechanical or control issues to the appropriate supervisor.
- Adhere strictly to lifting protocols and site-specific safety guidelines.
- Notify the bridge and deck team when lifts might influence vessel balance or stability.
- Inspect crane wire ropes daily to identify wear or potential failure risks.
- Perform standard maintenance tasks and cleanliness routines for crane and operator area.
- Maintain a tidy, hazard-free operator environment at all times.
- Work with engineers and electricians to schedule or carry out technical maintenance.
- Perform weekly inspections aligned with OEM (original equipment manufacturer) guidelines.
- Document lifts over 50 tonnes in the operational logbook.
- Direct support personnel such as tuggerhoist operators during complex lifts.
- Suspend operations if safety concerns arise or if any technical uncertainty is detected.
- Execute lifts under the guidance of the Deck Foreman, reporting to the 1st Assistant.
