OSM Thome Recruitment is looking for experienced 2nd Electrical Engineer for unique career opportunities in the cruise industry, on behalf of Royal Caribbean Group.
Position Summary:
The 2nd Electrical Engineer is responsible for the safe and efficient operation, maintenance, and repair of all electrical and electronic systems onboard. This includes performing troubleshooting, maintenance, and occasional installation of new electrical equipment in accordance with company standards and maritime regulations..
Key Responsibilities:
- Operate, maintain, and troubleshoot electrical and electronic equipment across the vessel.
- Ensure cost control through proper handling and maintenance of chemicals, tools, and supplies.
- Request additional manpower for repairs or maintenance as needed from the Chief Electrical Engineer.
- Provide daily verbal updates to the Chief Electrical Engineer on the status of all assigned areas.
- Maintain a detailed daily work report log for reference and record-keeping.
- Read and interpret electrical drawings, schematics, and manuals for all systems onboard.
- Support safety and environmental standards as per company and regulatory requirements.
Financial Responsibilities:
- Support cost control by properly using, handling, and maintaining supplies, records, and equipment.
- Ensure minimal waste and efficient use of resources within the buffet area.
Qualifications:
Experience & Education:
- Completion of a recognized training program meeting SOLAS, STCW, and other maritime regulations for work with low-voltage electrical systems.
- Competence in the operation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of electrical and electronic equipment (not limited to installation work).
- One of the following is required:
- Valid Ship’s Deck or Engineering Officer License, or
- Degree or diploma in Electrical Engineering or a related field.
- Training focused solely on electrical or electronic installation is not acceptable for this role.
Language Requirements
- Fluent in spoken and written English.
- Ability to clearly communicate technical information and follow written and verbal instructions.
- Capable of effectively presenting information and responding to queries from guests, supervisors, and team members.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to stand, walk, reach, and use hands for extended periods.
- Must be able to lift or move up to 50 pounds.
- Must possess normal vision (including color and depth perception) and hearing abilities.
- Physically able to participate in emergency drills and lifesaving procedures, including lowering lifeboats and handling safety equipment.
