We are looking for dedicated and detail-oriented Public Area Cleaners to join the Housekeeping Department onboard a cruise vessel. This role ensures all public spaces, guest areas, and crew facilities are cleaned, sanitized, and maintained to the highest standards of safety, hospitality, and presentation.
Maintain public spaces throughout the ship, ensuring cleanliness, hygiene, and order at all times. The role involves operating cleaning equipment, handling cleaning chemicals safely, responding to guest needs, and supporting housekeeping and hotel operations.
This position works on rotating shifts (day or night) and requires strong attention to detail, professionalism, and customer service skills.
Duties and Responsibilities:- Clean and maintain public restrooms, elevators, corridors, lounges, crew areas, and other assigned spaces.
- Use and operate cleaning equipment such as steam cleaners, scrapers, brooms, and various hand/power tools.
- Mix cleaning chemicals safely according to guidelines.
- Clean carpets, upholstery, walls, ceilings, windows, draperies, and fixtures.
- Polish metal surfaces and dust/wipe down furniture and accessories.
- Clean and replenish the Aqua Spa area (bathrooms, lockers, showers, gym equipment, reception area), if assigned.
- Empty trash bins and ashtrays; transport waste to designated disposal areas.
- Assist Food & Beverage teams in collecting soiled dishes, glasses, and utensils from public areas.
- Report any malfunctioning equipment (lighting, ventilation, etc.) to management.
- Maintain and request cleaning supplies as needed.
- Assist with luggage handling during embarkation and disembarkation.
- Help load hotel stores into storerooms as scheduled.
- Stay informed about the ship’s daily activities to assist guests with accurate information.
- Attend training sessions, meetings, and onboard courses as required.
- Perform additional duties as assigned by supervisors.
Qualifications: - 1–2 years of cleaning experience in an upscale hotel, resort, or cruise environment (shipboard experience preferred).
- Knowledge of cleaning techniques, equipment, and chemical safety.
- Customer service orientation and ability to interact professionally with guests and crew.
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
Language Requirements
- Ability to speak, read, and write English clearly and professionally.
- Additional languages (Spanish, French, German, etc.) are an advantage.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to stand, walk, reach, and perform physical tasks for extended periods.
- Able to lift and move up to 50 lbs.
- Good vision (near, far, color, peripheral, depth perception).
- Physically capable of participating in emergency drills, including lifeboat operations.
