Position Summary:

The Upholsterer performs maintenance and repair work involving all upholstery and related elements throughout the vessel. This includes repairing and maintaining furniture, carpets, wall coverings, and soft furnishings in guest and crew areas. The role requires a skilled tradesperson capable of independently carrying out a variety of repair tasks while maintaining the company’s service, safety, environmental, and quality standards.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Support and comply with the company’s environmental policies; report any malfunctioning environmental system immediately.
  • Maintain and repair the ship’s upholstery, carpets, wallpapers, and other soft furnishings.
  • Work flexible shifts, including alternative schedules; respond to emergencies even during off-duty hours if required.
  • Assist with basic tasks as directed by supervisors anywhere on the vessel.
  • Respond promptly to issues or guest complaints requiring upholstery-related attention.
  • Responsible for cost containment by properly using and maintaining tools, equipment, chemicals, and supplies.

Qualifications:
  • Previous shipboard experience and at least 2 years as an apprentice or assistant upholsterer.
  • Strong customer service skills aligned with the STAR Program.
  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • STCW95 Basic Safety Training and Social Responsibility certification.


Physical & Language Requirements:

  • Ability to speak English clearly and professionally with guests and coworkers.
  • Ability to read and write English to interpret work orders, procedures, and instructions.
  • Regular standing, walking, reaching, and use of hands for detailed manual work.
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
  • Vision requirements: close, distance, color, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
  • Must be physically capable of participating in all emergency drills and life-saving procedures, including lifeboat operations.
  • Full use of arms, legs, hearing, and speech is required.
