Requirements / Qualifications / Competence:
- Minimum 5+ years working offshore in lifting/heavy marine operations.
- At least 5 years operating large-scale offshore cranes (2000T class or similar).
- Valid offshore crane operator qualification (Level 2 for supervised inboard lifts and Level 3 for independent offshore lifts, or equivalent).
- Proven record working with high-capacity crane systems in marine environments.
- Experience with major offshore crane manufacturers (e.g., Huisman, NOV, Liebherr, AmClyde) preferred.
- Valid Stage 3 certification (or internationally recognized equivalent).
- IMCA crane operator logbook (or comparable documented lifting experience).
- Strong command of English for operational communication and safety coordination.
Tasks:
- Operate large offshore cranes within approved lifting capacities, accounting for weather, sea state, and operational derating factors.
- Execute lifting, lowering, and transfer operations safely, including approved personnel basket movements when authorized.
- Maintain continuous awareness of vessel layout, crane reach limits, and surrounding deck activities to avoid clashes or unsafe interactions.
- Coordinate lifting plans and execution steps with supervisors and relevant vessel departments prior to operations.
- Monitor and manage simultaneous crane activities on multi-crane vessels to prevent interference or operational overlap.
- Liaise with bridge personnel and stability control teams during lifts that may affect vessel balance or trim.
- Carry out pre-use and routine visual inspections of crane components such as wire ropes, hooks, and structural elements.
- Perform daily cleaning and upkeep of the operator cabin and ensure equipment area is kept in safe working condition.
- Report equipment faults, abnormalities, or performance issues promptly to engineering and supervisory teams.
- Support preventive maintenance activities in cooperation with onboard engineers and technical staff.
- Complete weekly inspection routines in line with manufacturer and vessel-specific procedures.
- Record and document significant lifts (typically over 50 tons) in official crane operation logs.
- Provide clear operational instructions to tugger hoist personnel during lifting sequences.
- Stop operations immediately when unsafe conditions, technical faults, or environmental risks are identified.
- Maintain effective communication with deck supervisors while following operational direction during lifting activities.
