Your responsibilities as a Technical Superintendent

  • Provide leadership and direction to all direct reports relating to vessel maintenance and management.
  • Ensure all vessels comply with the Company Policies and procedures as defined in the Integrated Management System (IMS).
  • Implement a schedule of Planned Maintenance for all vessels in conjunction with the Maintenance Planner and Scheduler.
  • Provide shore-based support to the Master and Chief Engineer on day-to-day engineering matters.
  • Review Engineers Logbooks and address any issues requiring attention
  •  Ensure all vessel Certificates are current and maintained as per statutory requirements.
  •  Coordinate all engineering activities resulting from vessel surveys defects, inspection outcomes and audit deficiencies.
  • Liaise with the HR-IR Manager to identify Training Needs for engineering officers.
  • Liaise with the relevant Vessel Superintendent regarding operational down time and issues.
  •  Liaise with the Master and Chief Engineer on any safety or technical requirements.
  • Supervise and coordinate vessel repairs and maintenance including the appointment of shore-side labour and/or service providers
  •  Manage and control maintenance and repair costs within budgetary constraints.
  • Review all engineering related “Request to Purchase” are vetted and approved in a timely manner.
  • Establish a positive interface with the Purchasing & Logistics Team by providing clear specifications and instructions for purchased goods and services.
  • Active Emergency Response Team Leader providing engineering advice on all emergency situations.
  •  Assist management in any Incident/Accident Investigations as requested.
  • Assist management in conducting vessel audits and rectification actions as required.
  • Ensure all vessel engineering records are managed and maintained in accordance with the procedures defined in the IMS “Record Management” section.
  •  Provide coverage of relevant key positions in the business unit as required such as in the event of annual leave or other absences, ensuring that all handover notes are adhered to, and outstanding tasks completed in a timely manner.

Experience, Skills & Attributes Required

You can make your mark as a Technical Superintendent if you have:

  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in a Marine Engineering Management position
  • Recognised operational experience, with a broad exposure and understanding of the Marine Industry.
  • Working knowledge of planned and/or preventative maintenance systems.
  • Marine Engineering Qualifications or engineering trade equivalent.
